Poseidon Watches: Breguet Marine Haute Joaillerie Poseidonia 2020
Breguet watch manufactory is committed to the classic traditions of creating masterpieces of watchmaking: their chronometers with jewelry elements are distinguished by their sophistication of form and the perfect embodiment of design ideas.
The Marine Haute Joaillerie 9509 Poseidonia chronometer is a fine example of sophisticated taste and inspired by the ocean depths of jewelry craftsmanship. The chronometer is named after the Mediterranean seaweed Posidonia oceanica, the “grass of Neptune”, and the watch’s appearance perfectly reflects this name.
The round mother-of-pearl dial is the basis for the motif of 85 baguette-cut gems arranged in the form of algae. Poseidonia is represented by four models, each of which is a fine combination of several colors of precious stones, combined with the delicate work of watchmakers. The diamond version is not complemented by any other stone, and the dial is made of black mother-of-pearl from Tahiti; at the same time, models with rubies, emeralds and sapphires are complemented by tsavorites and amethysts to create a spectacular play of color.
The dazzling luxury of Poseidonia does not overwhelm the look of the watch, but only reflects its understated elegance, especially in the version with white diamonds. The intricate curves of precious algae set against an iridescent mother-of-pearl background perfectly reflect the marine character of the Marine collection.
All four models are adorned with 270 stones with a total volume of 10 carats, except for the round diamond that adorns the crown. The baguette cut avoids formalism and brings precious algae to life, especially when combined with the visual continuity of the pattern that passes over the lugs of the case.
The polished clasp is surrounded by the same rectangular stones. The 35.8 mm case is made of 18K white gold. The diamond version is slightly different from the others – the dial tone varies from dark blue to brownish gray.
At the heart of Poseidonia is the automatic Caliber 591C in a unique Breguet design, with a silicon spring and escape wheel. The rotor of white gold is made in the form of a wave and is delicately finished with the same mother-of-pearl as on the dial, and everything around is studded with delicate diamonds. The bridges are finished with a subtle Cotes de Geneve pattern, which creates an allusion to the wooden plank deck.
It is interesting that the case back bears the engraving Horloger de la Marin – “Watchmaker in the Navy”. This phrase did not appear by chance – in homage to Abraham-Louis Breguet, who made chronometers for the French Navy, and a similar inscription was made on Breguet watches in the 19th century.
The Poseidonia watch is a truly unique creation of jewelers, which, like many masterpieces inspired by nature, deserves a place among collectible chronometers.
