The second life of coffee: Hublot and Nespresso present new watches

Two iconic Swiss brands, Hublot and Nespresso, joined forces in an exceptional project. creation of BigBang watches using recycled Nespresso aluminum capsules and coffee grounds.
As part of its Second Life initiatives, Nespresso has been collaborating with prestigious Swiss brands to create new products from aluminum capsules for the past seven years. Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin, the result of the partnership between Hublot and Nespresso, shares the values of innovation, excellence and sustainable development that are the basis of both brands. The Hublot company, founded in 1980, is known for its art of synthesis, developing new alloys, materials and composites, expanding the boundaries of various materials and putting rubber at the center of the time industry, using it for straps. Since 1986, Nespresso has not only revolutionized the art of coffee thanks to its portion system, which perfectly combines precision with an unforgettable taste, but also added even more value with the help of a processing system developed in 1991, which separates aluminum from coffee, allowing to re-profile each component. And that’s how a coffee capsule can now sometimes become – here’s a strap to the case.
Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin is the world’s first watch with a strap made of coffee grounds from capsules. Recycled aluminum, fused with aluminum capsules, becomes the case, bezel, crown and pusher. This collaboration is confirmed by the iconic Nespresso letter “N” engraved on the crown and its iconic color — the symbol of the Master Origins Peru Organic capsule. The density of the two materials is skilfully combined to ensure the durability of the product. The 42-millimeter body of the Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin is made of recycled aluminum, 28% of which comes from Nespresso coffee capsules. The bottom of the case and the container are made of recycled titanium. To create a rubber strap, Hublot skillfully balanced the ratio of each ingredient. achieving ideal color and quality. As for the fabric strap, the Swiss watch brand is collaborating with SingTex, one of Nespresso’s partners, which has already used recycled coffee grounds to make a fabric called Scafé. This fabric consists of 5% coffee grounds and 95% recycled polyester. However, this material was first used to make a watch strap. Hublot needed a whole year of research and development in close cooperation with Nespresso.
The Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin model, released in a limited edition of 200 copies, will be delivered in the new Hublot Greenbox case.
