Alfa Romeo has released a yacht-style sedan
Alfa Romeo unveiled the exclusive Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa sports sedan—the first fruit of its partnership with the Luna Rossa sailing team. This project is more than just a collector’s item designed to attract attention, but rather a collaboration between two icons of Italian style in the areas of technical innovation, sporting partnerships, and the creation of special products and projects inspired by the world of sailing.
Limited to just ten units, all of which have already been sold, the Luna Rossa is the most extreme version of the Giulia Quadrifoglio, thanks to a series of technical modifications and a special carbon fiber body kit that makes it a masterpiece of aerodynamic efficiency. According to the manufacturer, the Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa generates up to 140 kg of downforce at 300 km/h, approximately five times more than the standard Giulia Quadrifoglio.
The front of the car is equipped with side aerodynamic elements that increase the load on the front axle by directing airflow along the edges of the bumper. A pair of profiles mounted on the underbody also create a strong suction effect, adding downforce to the front axle. Carbon fiber “skirts” on the sides isolate the airflow under the car, improving overall aerodynamic efficiency.
The futuristic rear wing is inspired by the foils of the Luna Rossa AC75 racing yacht: hydrodynamic elements that lift the boat out of the water. Alfa Romeo inverted the foil’s profile so that it works in reverse—not to generate lift, but to press the car down onto the pavement.
In terms of style, the special edition’s aesthetic is also inspired by the signature livery of the Luna Rossa AC75, which competed in the 2024 America’s Cup. The bodywork is hand-painted in a shade reminiscent of the metallic sheen of steel. A red stripe with the “Luna Rossa” lettering is applied to this base. The Alfa Romeo brand logos on the front and rear of the car have been correspondingly modified: for the first time in the brand’s history, they are displayed on a red background.
The 19-inch wheels have also been repainted red to match the interior, while the roof, grille shield, and mirror caps are crafted from carbon fiber. Finally, some of the ten examples received a special two-tone contrast livery.
The interior follows the same Luna Rossa design language, including new Sparco seats with exclusive upholstery inspired by the yacht’s life jackets. The dashboard features a decorative trim panel cut from an original Luna Rossa sail, specially provided by the team. All of this is complemented by carbon fiber interior trim elements, including the center tunnel and seat shells adorned with the Luna Rossa logo.
The car is powered by a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 producing 520 hp, coupled with a mechanical limited-slip differential. This optimizes torque delivery, enhancing stability, agility, and cornering performance.
Alfa Romeo has been confirmed as the official sponsor of Luna Rossa at the 38th America’s Cup in Naples. During the announcement, it was also announced that the Luna Rossa team will participate in the 43rd Mille Miglia rally in a rare 1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint, which is normally kept in the Arese museum.
