The Icon by BMW and TYDE
The Icon by BMW and TYDEAs part of the 76th Cannes Film Festival, BMW and TYDE presented The Icon with an amazingly shaped electric jet ski.The novelty combines the experience of the boat manufacturer TYDE, BMW battery technology and Designworks design.
The Icon is a pioneer in the world of electric watercraft. BMW developed the concept and brought together experts from various areas of mobility to work together on this project. Designworks, an innovation center owned by the BMW Group, with studios in Los Angeles, Munich and Shanghai, developed the design, and boat manufacturer TYDE brought the project to life.
Twin 100kW electric motors convert 240kWh of energy from six BMW i3 batteries into power for more than 50 nautical miles or about 100 kilometers of autonomous travel.
When the watercraft approaches its maximum speed of 30 knots (55 km/h), it rises on hydrofoils. These wings allow him to fly above the surface, reducing his energy consumption.
The appearance of the boat is quite attractive. Transparent doors open the entrance to a stylish spacious salon with sofas. The control post is located in the central part. The controls are similar to the BMW iDrive Operation System 8. Voice commands can be used to access data such as range and weather reports.
The Icon has been designed for the modern lifestyle and can be used as a boat for short walks or parties on the water.
