The Pangeos — the project of a giant ark yacht in the shape of a turtle
Italian designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini presented a project for a floating city for 60,000 people. From above, it looks like a giant tortoise. The project is called The Pangeos – in honor of the supercontinent Pangea, which united the continents that existed during the Mesozoic. If implemented, the turtle city will become the largest man-made floating object in the world.
Dimensions The Pangeos: 550 meters in height and 610 meters in height with a draft of 30 meters. For comparison, these are about two Roman Colosseums. Pangeos is being designed as a space floating structure.
The turtle should stand on the territory of Saudi Arabia, but later – move freely across the water surface of the entire planet. At the same time, there is currently no port that will accept a ship of this size. People will be delivered to the floating city by boats and helicopters.
According to the author’s idea, the body of the floating city should be made of steel, and the territory will house hotels, shopping centers, parks, villas and clubs – everything you need for a luxurious life in the middle of the ocean. And, of course, The Pangeos will have its own sea and air ports so that the “locals” can freely enter the city.
Another feature of the project is environmental friendliness. Electricity will be generated by giant solar panels and wave energy generators in the form of turtle paws. The total power of the power plants on the ship is 16,800 horsepower. They provide a speed of 5 knots (~10 km/h).
Engineers estimate that the floating city will take eight years to build. About 8 billion dollars will be needed to implement the project. To do this, the author of the project plans to open a crowdfunding company and NFT.
