Andy Waugh Yacht Design. Break from reality.
British yacht design studio Andy Waugh Yacht Design has unveiled the concept of the 80-meter futuristic catamaran Decadence in retro style. The creators of the project drew inspiration from the illustrations of the “golden era” of the American aviation and automobile industry in the 1920s.
The first images of the Decadence project available to the general public make it clear that the designers created it according to the patterns of the SWATH (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) hulls. The main feature of such hulls is to minimize the area of the vessel that is in contact with the water surface. These vessels have several (in this case four) floats, which are attached to the central hull with special connecting structural elements.
The main innovations, of course, concern floats and their impact on superyacht handling. Thanks to a special hull control system, it will be possible to reduce roll and pitch by 70% compared to a single-hull vessel of the same size.On board, it is planned to place a huge master cabin in the entire width of the main hull (20 meters), 30 meters long and 3 meters high.In addition, Decadence will have several decks, each of which will be protected from the weather and away from prying eyes.Cabins for the crew will be located both inside the main building and in the “floats”.Of course, due to the large width, mooring in marinas will be quite problematic. The studio itself announced this, but the problem already has several solutions. Firstly, the marina may simply not be needed – high stability due to improved float control will provide “peace on the water in any weather.” Secondly, by default, two 14-meter tender-shuttles are provided in the package. On them it will be possible to go ashore, deliver provisions, etc. But the most interesting feature will be retractable inflatable sails. Inspired by Wingsail technology, these sails are designed to allow Decadence to put the power of the wind to good use as well. Details on which engines will be installed are not yet available. The only thing the studio is saying is that Decadence will be equipped with a radical new engine system that will reduce energy consumption by 30%.
