The first world 70-meter expedition superyacht ‘Captain Arctic’ is available for charter

French company Selar has shown the public the first renderings of a 70-meter yacht with unusual sails. The yacht has received the inspiring name ‘Captain Arctic’. The hull of the superyacht is being built at the CNOI (Chantier Naval de l’Ocean Indien) shipyard on the island of Mauritius. According to the plan, ‘Captain Arctic’ should be launched in 2026.
What is so special about ‘Captain Arctic’? These are the so-called “rigid solar sails”, which Selar describes as “a Swiss army knife that can be removed if necessary.” Judging by the images, the sails on ‘Captain Arctic’ will be something between a DynaRig and a Windsail, with an adjustment for the use of aluminum.
Solar panels with a total area of about 2,000 m2 will be built into the sides of the sails. There will be as many as five masts. The height of the
“hard sails” will be 35 meters. Each of the five sails of the yacht is covered with solar panels with a total area of about 200 sq. m, providing operation of both the hotel mode and the yacht’s engines. Thus, ‘Captain Arctic’ will be able to move in absolute silence without any vibrations or the smell of waste fuel.
In case of a lack of wind or solar energy, engines running on vegetable oil will come into play – the developers claim that ‘Captain Arctic’ will emit 90% less CO2 than any other vessel in this region.
Guests of ‘Captain Arctic’ will have at their disposal an experienced team and a whole staff of specialists who are well acquainted with organizing travels in the Arctic for unprepared tourists.
It is known that among the available entertainment on board there will be a gym, a library, a 1920s-style bar, a panoramic lounge and, for the most daring and adventurous, a swimming pool with icy sea water.
In the spacious dining room, all guests will be able to gather together for a snack and chat with each other. In addition, there will also be a scientific lab on board, studying the polar regions and protecting the environment.
The preliminary schedule of the first cruises of ‘Captain Arctic’ has already been drawn up. From December 4 to December 11, 2026, the yacht will set off on her first cruise in northern Norway from Tromsø. From there, the Christmas cruise will start from December 18, 2026 to January 3, 2027.
Then, from January to March 2027, ‘Captain Arctic’ will make several more trips around Norway, and then go to Spitsbergen, where she will stay until the end of August. At the end of September 2027, the yacht will set sail for Greenland.
The organizers have announced the cost of renting the vessel ‘Captain Arctic’ on an all-inclusive basis, which ranges from 590,000 to 955,000 euros per week, depending on the complexity and water area of the cruise.
