Stellantis Unveils Its Own Autopilot System

Dutch manufacturer Stellantis has developed its first autonomous driving system, STLA AutoDrive. It offers hands-free and eye-free autopilot capabilities at speeds up to 60 km/h.
STLA AutoDrive will receive updates via the cloud and work with real-time data. The company also says that the system complies with local laws and regulations. Although most countries prohibit texting or watching videos while driving, STLA AutoDrive “allows the driver to do other things, such as watching a movie, checking email, reading a book, or simply looking out the window.” However, this is not entirely true, because at Level 3, the driver still needs to be ready to quickly take over the car if the system requires intervention or switches off.
The technology handles everyday driving tasks, including maintaining a safe distance, adjusting the speed, steering, and braking depending on current road conditions, according to the manufacturer. It can also work in difficult weather conditions, such as light rain or road mud.
STLA AutoDrive also supports Level 2 (manual) and Level 2+ (supervised manual) driving at higher speeds, including adaptive cruise control and lane centering capabilities. Additionally, future updates could enable hands-free driving at speeds up to 95 km/h and automated off-road driving.
The system was built on a scalable and cloud-connected architecture and will soon be rolled out across all Stellantis brands: Citroen, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati and others.
