Wally supports return of Maxi racing
Last week the attention of the sailing world was focused on the Italian Riviera, where the Regate di Primavera – Splendido Mare Cup 2021 took place. The event took place in the Gulf of Tigullio from 5 to 9 May. It brought together the world’s most serious sailboats and marked the return of Maxi racing to the Mediterranean.
The Wally fleet was represented by two elegant 24-meter yachts: Kauris II and Ryokan 2 – the winner of the prestigious Compasso d’Oro competition. Both sailboats showcased Wally’s unique design: clean lines, perfect proportions and excellent performance.

«Variable weather conditions were observed off the coast of Portofino. Seas ran quite high at times, while the wind went from flat calm to gusty and back again. This is quite good for classic racing, leaving an unforgettable experience, ”says Wally founder Luca Bassani. “The two Wally yachts kept pace with the pace, making for a stunning finish at the finish. This is understandable: for almost a year without maxi-yacht races, the owners, for obvious reasons, enthusiastically resume the regatta in the Mediterranean. Wally is delighted to help sailboat owners and Wally Class members take part in one of the most prestigious events in the world this summer. ”
The guests were also able to appreciate the Wallytender line. Both the 43wallytender and 48wallytender stood out not only for their striking design, but also delighted in impeccable maneuverability and handling.
The event, now known as the Regate di Primavera, has been held almost every year for over 40 years in Portofino. Last year, of course, the event was canceled due to the pandemic, but Wally were keen to resume racing and did their best to return to the racing ranks. Over the past four decades, the Wally Class fleet has expanded its range from 24 meters to 50 meters in length.
Wally’s big events are expected over the next six months. After the Regate di Primavera in Portofino, Wally is expected to take part in the Loro Piana Super Yacht in Porto Cervo (June 1-5), as well as the Giraglia Rolex Cup (June 16-19), Superyacht Cup in Palma de -Majorca (23-26 June), the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Porto Cervo (5-11 September) and Voiles de St Tropez, which will close the season from 4-9 October.
