Louis Vuitton GMR6. Inspired by stained glass

Louis Vuitton has unveiled the LVKV-02 GMR 6 chronograph. The model was created in collaboration with the watchmaker Kari Voutilainen and is dedicated to travel.
The exclusive limited edition model is based on the Louis Vuitton Escale watch and has a 40.5 mm tantalum case with platinum accents. The name and style of the watch are a reference to Louis Vuitton’s deep roots in the manufacture of luggage. The lugs of the watch resemble the metal corners of the brand’s classic leather suitcases and trunks.
The GMR 6 designation is another reference to Louis Vuitton’s heritage in travel: the letter “R” stands for the power reserve indicator, and “6” is the location of the aforementioned time zone sub-dial. The GMT disc is designed to be set to the owner’s “home” time, while the central hour hand can be quickly adjusted with a single click of the crown when travelling. The centre of the gold dial features hand-guilloché work, executed in the Brodbeck workshop using 18th-century tools. This creates a unique, complex pattern inspired by the Louis Vuitton Damier pattern and Kari Voutilainen’s signature wavy theme.
Reminiscent of both a kaleidoscope and the stained glass of ancient cathedrals, the main scale with large hour markers is hand-painted in 28 different colours. The process, carried out by master painter Marina Bossi at La Fabrique des Arts, takes over 32 hours of meticulous work. The lower subdial features a day-night disc with hand-engraved sun and moon motifs in the shape of the Louis Vuitton monogram flower in saffron and blue tones.
Louis Vuitton plans to produce only five examples of this chronograph, each of which will be delivered to the buyer in a case handcrafted in the Louis Vuitton workshop in Asnières.
