Prada Re-Nylon Collection 2025: Microplastics from the Ocean on the Catwalk

The Prada fashion house has released a collection of clothing and accessories for men and women, the raw material for which is plastic waste obtained from the ocean. The Prada Group is creating an innovative product as part of the Sea Beyond eco-program, implemented jointly with the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (UNESCO-IOC).
For Prada, nylon is not just a material, but a symbol of revolution: when Miuccia Prada released the first nylon line of goods in 1984, this was something unheard of for high fashion, but over time, the previously underestimated fabric firmly conquered the catwalks. The 21st century has brought a technological revolution – nylon production is becoming increasingly environmentally friendly. Items from the Prada Re-Edition series are made from Econyl fabric, which is made from plastic collected in the World Ocean. Old fishing nets, textile fibers and other waste are cleaned and recycled, resulting in a nylon fabric that feels like silk.
The Milanese house presented 191 items in the 2025 collection: bags and backpacks, jackets, hats and other accessories. The color scheme is predominantly black, but there are splashes of Aviator Blue and Bottle Green, hinting at the sea and bottles collected on the shore.
The presentation was timed to coincide with the release of documentaries filmed by Prada in partnership with National Geographic CreativeWorks under the Sea Beyond program, aimed at popularizing public literacy in the field of ecology and ocean conservation. Hollywood actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Sadie Sink became ambassadors of the project, who went to Norway and Mexico to talk about the ecosystem of these regions, the pollution that threatens the marine environment, and the efforts aimed at protecting it.
