CRN CLOUD 9. Over the moon
Everyone wants to be over the moon from happinesshe. And even if this is an elusive state of mind, which everyone understands in their own way, it’s hard to disagree with the version of happiness from the Italian shipyard CRN. And even the name of the new ship was appropriate – Cloud 9 (literally “on the ninth cloud”), which corresponds to the more familiar “in seventh heaven”.
It so happened that the Cloud 9 yacht changed hands when the hull was completely finished. However, this did not prevent her from fully satisfying the requirements of the new customer. This is primarily a family boat with an impressive list of interesting details: it has a huge beach club and several pools, a gym and spa, karaoke and teppanyaki bar, a private owner’s deck, an impressive list of water toys and much more. The internal volumes of the yacht turned out to be very roomy, although this is not surprising, the steel displacement hull has a weight of 2,218 register tons. Also, the vessel is able to comfortably cover distances up to 6,000 nautical miles, and 40,000 liters of drinking water and subdeck storage systems will allow not entering marinas for a very long time. The vessel is equipped with a pair of Caterpillar 3516C diesel units with a capacity of 2,682 hp, which provide a maximum speed of 16.5 knots. This yacht also impresses with its unusual interior organization and a new look at the usual zoning. The ascent to the ship here can be organized in several ways, one of which is through a hinged door on the starboard side on the lower deck. Guests immediately enter the spacious lobby with a small bar and lounge area. Here, in the immediate vicinity, there is an elevator, it connects all the decks, which, by the way, are five on this yacht.
The forward part of the upper deck is given over to the captain’s cabin and the wheelhouse, equipped with five multifunctional monitors. But, perhaps, the open area on this deck deserves special attention on Cloud 9. When designing the ship, a helipad was planned at this place, but the new owner abandoned this idea. Therefore, in addition to a cozy lounge and a huge sunpad in front of the wheelhouse, a multifunctional terrace appeared on the bow of the vessel. For example, it can be used as a huge dance floor at a party or as a karaoke club. Also, the owner actively uses it as a gym when the weather is right, or as another pleasant lounge under a stretch tent. In a word, there are a great many solutions for organizing this space. On mid-sized yachts, the so-called owner’s deck often appears recently, but in reality, the private area is a maximum of 50 percent of the entire deck. Often the owner occupies the stern, and in the bow there is a control post. Or vice versa, the owner gets at his disposal the bow of the boat with a covered terrace, and another small salon is organized at the stern. In the case of CRN Cloud 9, the private deck is a full-fledged space that is solely at the disposal of the owner. This deck is the culmination of an example of family fun and classic elegance. On the aft deck is a private saloon with a small office and lounge area. To furnish the space, the designers chose an Art Deco style set, inlaid with mother-of-pearl and in harmony with the snow-white flooring. Also in this area there is a second cinema, which involves watching films not only in the salon itself, but also from the open aft area.
The forward area of the owner’s deck is given over to the master suite. Before getting directly into the sleeping area, the owner passes a large corridor from where there is access to dressing rooms and other storage systems. The central place in the bedroom is occupied by an oversized bed, framed by an elegant leather headboard with a warm glow of streaming light. Warm sandy shades of the walls, floor and ceiling create an atmosphere of peace and relaxation, and accentuate the beach theme – decor items. Wall installations with patterns of leaves in inlaid wood are a real work of art created by master carver Veneto. Two bathrooms – “for him” with a shower and “for her” with a luxurious bathtub – finished with exclusive varieties of marble. For example, Botticino Classic marble in beige was used in the bathroom “for her” and it has a unique shade and texture. Another feature of the master apartments is panoramic windows with access to an open terrace with several solariums and a lounge under an awning.
Guest living spaces on Cloud 9 are on the main deck rather than the lower level as is traditionally the case. So, it is supposed to accommodate up to 14 guests in a VIP suite and six standard cabins in the bow of the main deck. Moreover, some suites have transformable beds: in a matter of seconds, a double bed is converted into a pair of separate beds and vice versa. All cabins have en-suite bathrooms with shower and bathtub, surrounded by Calcutta marble and mother-of-pearl finishes. In addition, a wide range of entertainment is available to all guests, ranging from satellite TV to a full-fledged media system controlled using the iPad. Sandek is the perfect sunbathing and entertaining area for guests. It has everything for a comfortable stay – several sunpads, a Jacuzzi pool, a full-fledged outdoor dining room and a teppanyaki bar where everything is cooked on a huge hot surface built into the countertop. In addition to several cinemas, a karaoke zone and swimming pools, Cloud 9 has several other interesting entertainment and opportunities, for example, a wellness zone. On the main deck there is a spa complex equipped with a massage table and a small beauty salon. In addition, from this room there is access to a reclining balcony. On the upper deck there is an indoor gym with a set of exercise machines.
Since the traditional guest compartment was organized on the main deck, most of the lower deck is reserved for accommodation and rest areas for the staff on board Cloud 9. There are 13 full-fledged cabins for 22 crew members, including cabins for additional personnel, for example, for nannies or teachers. In addition, the crew has its own kitchen, dining room and salon. Separately, it is necessary to mention the garage on this ship, as there are two huge hangars on the lower deck. The list of all kinds of water toys on Cloud 9 is simply breathtaking: a 9.3-meter Novurania tender, a Mastercraft X20 wakeboard and water ski tow, a MiniCat 420 Evoque inflatable catamaran, four Yamaha jet skis, an X-Jetpack and Flyboard Pro flying pack, a couple of Seabobs F5 S and 13m inflatable slide. There are also diving, fishing and snorkelling equipment on board. And this is only part of the list of entertainment that will surely please any Cloud 9 guest.
The main salon on the main deck is also full of unusual solutions. Its atmosphere is open and relaxed. At the request of the owner of the yacht, there is no traditional dining room here, so the salon has a lot of sofa areas and a bar corner. This layout is more like an informal skylounge on the upper deck. The whole interior is imbued with the idea of a beach house on the seashore. To achieve the desired effect, more than 50 species of valuable wood were involved, of which bleached oak and honey fir deserve special attention. Sand and beige shades were chosen as the main tones for the design of the living space in Winch Design. They are masterfully set off by decorative niches using all sorts of shades of blue and ocher.
The elegant design of the space is accentuated by art deco furniture along with island decor items. The central place in the cabin is occupied by a cozy sofa 1.5 meters wide, which is especially convenient when watching movies in a large company. Indeed, with the help of overhead projectors and retractable screens, this space becomes a full-fledged cinema theater. Another highlight of the cabin is the 3D porcelain “Clouds” panel by British artist Fenella Elms, which adds dynamism and depth to the central bulkhead, along with two swirling sculptures by Tim Royall. Aft of the main deck, which is a logical continuation of the saloon, there is an open lounge. But the most interesting feature was, of course, the 12-meter pool with hydromassage elements and a stunning glass bottom. The light refracted through the water surface of the pool creates a unique play of rays on the deck below – in the Cloud 9 Beach Club. This exceptional area, with more than 60 m² of space for relaxation at the water’s edge, was primarily conceived to offer maximum entertainment opportunities on fresh air. On the reclining platform are sun loungers, tables and sun umbrellas. In the covered part of the beach club you can find an espresso bar, several sofa lounges and a shower room. Unusual frescoes were successfully used in the decoration of the upper deck, which are amazingly combined with the ceiling imitating the water surface. The main dining area on the upper deck is an unusual solution in itself, but the designers have taken it a step further and placed the dining table at the junction of open and closed space. In bad weather, this area can be protected from all winds by sliding glass doors, and their rounded shape creates a cozy feeling. During the day, this space is filled with marine freshness and lightness, but in the evening, raster lamps installed in the ceiling create a unique solemn atmosphere. All this is the best illustration of the successful work on the integration of internal and external spaces of the Studio Zuccon International and Winch Design teams.
